According to some people, Quinoa isn’t an “energy” food, which is why it is categorized as a pseudocereal. Quinoa, in general, belongs to the amaranth family, which is a flowering plant found everywhere, except in extreme deserts and frigid cold ice-laden fields.

We know that quinoa is good for losing weight; we also know that quinoa can improve your health. However, quinoa isn’t some miraculous superfood without any drawbacks. If you eat too much quinoa, you could have bloat, diarrhea, or even vomiting.

Another problem with quinoa is that it has a fair bit of phytic acid like most other beans and grains. Phytic acid is an anti-nutrient in the form of an indigestible compound. If you eat quinoa, you may find yourself a bit heavy and gassy.

You will also not get the full amount of nutritional benefits that you would normally get from consuming quinoa. You decrease the negative effects by soaking quinoa and making the final meal more nutritious. Another unsurprising benefit of soaking quinoa is the decrease in cooking time. 

How to Soak Quinoa

You soak your quinoa like you would soak your rice or any other grain/seed. The main thing you will need to do is soak your quinoa in a bowl and have some patience. You should also wash your quinoa thoroughly underwater before going through the soaking process.

 Quinoa is naturally coated with saponins, which are bitter tasting and not generally good for you. By washing your quinoa, you remove this coat and enliven their taste.

Soaking Quinoa in Water

The best thing to soak quinoa in is water because it is easy, convenient and effective. After washing your quinoa, pour all of your quinoa into a bowl and add an adequate amount of water. The general rule is that for each cup of quinoa, add two cups of water.

After you pour in the water, place them on a countertop or in a cool place and wait for them to absorb the water. They won’t absorb all of the water, so filter them and add them to the dish that you are making.

How Long To Soak Quinoa

The length of the soaking period for quinoa depends entirely on your preference. You can soak it for any period between 120 minutes and overnight. We recommend going for the long soaks because they give your quinoa better texture and taste.

However, if you are short on time, soaking them for 2 to 3 hours should be enough. If you plan on eating pure quinoa, then get some Heinz Ketchup and some gravy as well. We recommend going for the McCormick canned gravy or Bisto Canned gravy.

Can You Soak Quinoa Overnight?

Yes, you can soak quinoa overnight, and we recommend soaking it overnight. If you want to eat quinoa solely for the nutritional boons, we highly recommend going for the overnight soak. The soaking method is the same as the standard method, with one added instruction to keep them in a place that is at room temperature or cooler.  

How to Soak Quinoa Fast

There is a quick soak method for quinoa, but it isn’t effective. You can soak your quinoa in water and slowly heat it. You can let your quinoa soak in this warm bath for 20 to 30 minutes and then remove them for further processing.

Once removed from the heat, let them sit in the warm water for about five more minutes. Remove them from the water and use them as you please. We always recommend going for the longer soaks because they are better at making your quinoa healthier and tastier.
