Lablab is the bean species, aboriginal to Africa. It is related to the family Fabaceae. It is found mostly in fishponds mud and used as food. Lablab has some common names: hyacinth bean, bonavist bean, field bean, Egyptian bean, etc. It is also used as a green vegetable.

How to Store Lablab
For every food to last long, it is very important to store it in good condition to retain its taste and quality. That’s why Lablab can be stored as hay or silage. We are going to discuss; follow these points to keep you Lablab for as long as it could be.
In the form of hay
Lablab produces hay that is similar in quality to alfalfa hay. Its leaf is sufficiently preserved. Its stem is coarse and fibrous, that’s why it’s very difficult to dry while Lablab does not re-grow, unlike alfalfa.
In the form of silage
Lablab may also store as silage it produces good quality of it. It increases the massing of soluble sugars, and we can certainly save the seeds of Lablab after the first frost when the ponds turned brown. Keep it in a cool place which will make it useful until next month.
We can also store Lablab in the refrigerator. To refrigerate it properly, you have to blanch it. You can place Lablab in boiling water for almost 2 minutes, then add normal or chilled water from the refrigerator and add ice cubes in it. Use sealed containers to preserve the Lablab, but polythene bags are easier to place in a refrigerator as these bags also take less space.
Keep It Hydrated
Always keep your Lablab moistened. Dryness can make your lablab spoil and change its texture very fast. If you store it at room temperature for a day, you have to wrap it in a newspaper and sprinkle water on the leaves and stem. Doing so will keep it fresh and increase its shelf life.
Can You Freeze Lablab
Yes, you can freeze Lablab. You may freeze Lablab in two main ways; one way is to freeze it individually, to freeze individually, first of all, place them in a large tray in a single layer, then put the tray in a freezer for almost 1-2 hours; then place freezing lablabs in a bag or a container and put them on a tray to avoid clumping.

Fresh Lablab may be left for up to 1 week. Dried Lablab can stay at room temperature for about 2-3 years. Fresh Lablab may also last for 3-5 days in the refrigerator. If Lablab is stored in an oxygen-free environment with oxygen absorbers, they may last for 20 years.

How To Tell If Lablab Is Bad
If a food product gets bad, there is a change in its color, texture, smell, and taste. It is harmful to eat rotten food products. As discussed above that Lablab may not last very long if not taken care of it properly.
- Discoloration: A fresh Lablab is in purple. Check the lablab color if they have changed its color and turn it into dark brown. It will help if you get rid of it immediately.
- Foul Smell: Usually, it has a strong and unpleasant smell. When its smell turns into a pungent, sour smell and the white-colored liquid surrounding it, which is a sign of mold formation, avoid eating it.
- Check the Texture: Fresh Lablab is flat, broad with heavy margins of 4-5 inches long. Bacteria formation can cause changes in its texture. Touch the Lablab to check whether it is good or bad. If its texture seems wrinkled all around, then get rid of it and avoid eating it.
