Water apple, also known as rose apple or wax apple, is not an apple. The name has no significant meaning to its taste. It is a tropical fruit, usually grown in India, Malaysia, and Indonesia. The fruit is very small and is shaped like a pear, being wide at the bottom and narrow at the top.

Water apples are green when they are unripe; the fruit turns fully red once it is ripe and ready to be eaten. The skin of a water apple is delicate. Can You Freeze Water Apple
When it comes to water apples, many of them are juicy and contain many water content. Hence the name suggests. Freezing these water apples is not a good option. Even if you wish to keep them for longer, you cannot go for the freezing option. When the fruit is thawed, its flavor is lost, and it becomes no longer edible raw. You must use them in a recipe to eat thawed water apples. Therefore, you are better off using all the water apples without the need to freeze them.
How Long Do Water Apples Last
Water apples have a shorter life span as compared to other fruits. The storage conditions and the environmental effects influence the shelf life of the fruit. If stored properly at the kitchen counter, the ripe water apples should stay good for up to five days. Unripe water apples will stay a few days more until they ripen at room temperature.
In the refrigerator, you can keep water apples for a week to 10 days, make sure not to expose the fruit to a too cold temperature, and keep it in the lower area of the fridge. Cutwater apples cannot be kept open; they tend to go brown and lose their flavor very quickly. Use the cut water apple within 2 to 3 hours, even if you keep it wrapped in a plastic wrap in the refrigerator.

As mentioned earlier in the article, the water apples tend to bruise very easily due to their soft skin. Therefore, the fruit needs to be handled delicately to prevent it from going to waste. It does not take an expert to identify if the water apples are bad. The look of the fruit pretty much tells everything about its health. Hence, you will not have to worry about eating a spoiled water apple.
- Appearance: Soft spots over the fruit and wrinkled skin are signs of it beginning to go bad. Also, holes and blemishes are not a good sign.
- Texture: If you observe a mushy texture and liquid oozing from it, it is not a good sign. Check the fruit by touching it; if it feels spoiled and rotten, it’s better to throw it away.
- Odor: A foul odor becomes stronger and unbearable for water apples; you will immediately know by smelling it that the fruit has gone bad.
