Life is sweet when the heart is merry. There is a feeling of happiness that comes with having a sweet drink or food. Nature itself regularly presents sweetness to you in various forms. Honey is regarded as one of the sweetest natural substances on the planet. Bees are the proud manufacturers of this natural sweetener. They do this by collecting nectar or honeydew, regurgitating it, evaporating excess water from it, and storing it in honeycombs in their hives. Most of the honey sold in the market is gotten from domesticated bees.
Just as honey is pleasant to your taste buds, so is it to your general health. Raw honey contains many health-boosting vitamins, minerals, antioxidants, and proteins that provide all-around nourishment to your body. It is also a readily available treatment for wounds and burns. Honeys Buyer’s Guide
Honey is delicious. Bees are good for the environment, and the honey they make is good for your health. Your experience with honey would not be a bad one when you know what to look out for when making a purchase. Read our buyer’s guide to get informed about the main things to consider when shopping for honey.
Honey basically comes in two (2) types. These two types are determined by what the bees consume to produce their honey. The nectar honey is produced by bees that consume nectar from flowers. The honeydew or forest honey is produced by bees that consume other insects’ excretions, especially aphids. Honeydew honey has a darker color than nectar honey, and the tastes are distinctively different. Any one of the two is good.
Nectar honey can be mono-floral which means it is produced by bees that feed on the nectar of just one specific type of flower. It can also be multi-floral, which means that it is produced by bees feeding on multiple types of flowers. Multi-floral honey is a lot cheaper than mono-floral honey. The MGO content of multi-floral honey is always within the range of 30 and 70. Mono-floral honey can have an MGO content of up to 840+
While some honey is packaged unfiltered, some go through some filtration processes. Filtered honey has a significant amount of pollen removed from it. They are often clearer in appearance than unfiltered honey. Unfiltered honey will crystallize faster than filtered honey. Because of the large amount of pollen in unfiltered honey, it is more nutritious and stays perfect for a longer period, so we recommend them over filtered honey.
Some companies add artificial sweeteners like fructose corn syrup to their honey to make it sweeter. Many add preservatives to lengthen the shelf life. It is important to check the information label of the bottle or jar before purchasing. Note that the best honeys are raw and unfiltered, and they are not as sweet as the ones with additives.
If you are allergic to pollen, you should stay away from raw Unfiltered Honey with high pollen content. Filtered honey is free-flowing and contains little or no pollen, so this option is ideal for you.
